How Does Your Garden Grow?

Today the Hanselmann Family put in a garden. Just a small one, 2 beefsteak tomato plants (compliments of our neighbor), 1 roma tomato plant, 1 orange pepper plant, 1 red/green pepper plant, 1 zucchini plant, 1 yellow squash plant. Dan removed all of the sod, and turned the earth by hand, well with a shovel. I have never done a garden without a tiller before, we will have to see how much weeding I will have to do! The kids were a big help with the digging and watering. Hopefully they will stay out of the garden, unless they are weeding of course! Things have been busy this past week. I will have to post pictures of the wedding we shot this weekend when we have them finished. Alyssa, my cousin was a beautiful bride, we had a lot of fun.

Fun in Colorado

This past Friday my Mom, Kids, and myself left for Colorado Springs at about 6:45 at night. We drove all night and got there at about 8:00 am. Then we stayed up all day and played with Amanda and kids, helped set up her house, and ate very naughty food. That evening we went to bed at around 11pm and left Sunday morning after breakfast. We got home Monday morning at 2:30 am. I wouldn't have traded the trip for anything! I love trips like that and we had the best time. As you can see from the photo the kids had a great time as well. just as a side note, I believe that Nathan was trying to keep his balance, not trying to give Malia a "good game". I think. :)

Easter Morning

Easter morning was always pretty serious at the Hanselmann house while my husband was growing up. There were seven children in the family and his mother did this type of a scavenger hunt with everyone of her kids. Seven different routes, all different clues, for each kid. I don't know how many hours it must have taken her. We decided to try it out this year. It was a huge hit. We had so much fun and I am happy to carry on the tradition. We had a fantastic Easter, too many memories to write about. Let's just say that I love my family and couldn't be a happier girl!

Nathan

We finally have some answers with Nathan. Ever since Nathan was a babe he has acted a little different. We have had in therapy for OT and speech for the past 5 months or so trying to figure out what was going on. We have been getting nowhere. And then a breakthrough! One of my good friends is an autism specialist and was completely stumped by Nathan. His therapists thought that he had an autism spectrum disorder, and speech issues. However, when he spent time with my friend he was a very well adjusted boy with advanced speech. She started to research and found our answer. Nathan has Selective Mutism. You can read about it here. It has been so helpful to know what is going on with him so that we can help him through it. He will attend school in the fall and we are hoping that with the right therapy that he will fit right in. Thanks to all of you who have been so understanding of him as we have been searching and figuring this out.
